Hi, I'm Kowshikaa! I recently completed my Master's in Cybersecurity through the Erasmus Mundus CYBERUS programme, studying across three countries: Belgium, France and an internship in Canada with a specialization in IoT security. I'm currently based in Lyon.
English has been my language of instruction since elementary school, so I've been writing essays, sitting exams, giving presentations and working professionally in English for most of my life, not something I picked up later as a second language. I also hold an IELTS certification, so I know the exam from the inside, not just as a teacher but as someone who's actually sat it and understands exactly what examiners are scoring for.
Beyond the language side, my academic background means I've written a lot: a Master's thesis, technical research papers, incident reports and documentation for cross-country research collaborations, so I've had a lot of practice turning complex ideas into clear, well-structured writing, which is exactly the skill most students are trying to build.
I've also lived and studied across several countries: India, France, Belgium, Estonia and Canada, which has given me a strong sense of how differently people learn depending on their background and how to adjust my teaching style accordingly. Whether you're aiming for an exam score, a thesis deadline, or just more confidence speaking, I focus on what's actually holding you back rather than generic drills.
I work well with STEM and academic students especially, since I understand technical writing and research pressure firsthand, but I'm just as comfortable with general learners at any level.

Thesis & Academic Writing
We start by looking at what you already have: an outline, a rough draft or sometimes just a topic and a deadline. From there, we build out the structure: first introduction, argument progression, how each section supports the next before touching sentence-level details. A lot of students get stuck rewriting the same paragraph over and over because the structure underneath isn't solid; fixing that first saves hours later.
Once the structure holds up, we go section by section: tightening topic sentences, cutting redundant phrasing, fixing the small grammar patterns that repeat throughout a paper (article usage, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement in complex sentences) and making sure the tone stays formal and consistent. I also help with things like paraphrasing sources properly, transitioning between ideas without sounding robotic and writing abstracts and conclusions that actually summarize rather than just repeat the intro.
If you're working in a technical or scientific field, I'm comfortable with that kind of writing too: dense, data-heavy paragraphs, methodology sections, results write-ups. If it's a humanities thesis, we can spend more time on argument nuance and critical framing.
Test Prep (IELTS and similar exams)
This is broken into the four sections and we treat each one differently because they fail for different reasons.
Listening: we do timed practice with real exam-style audio, then go through what you missed and why: usually it's either speed, unfamiliar accents or losing track during longer recordings. We work on note-taking shorthand and predicting answers before the audio even gets there.
Reading: skimming for structure first, then targeted re-reading for specific question types (true/false/not given, matching headings, etc.). Most people lose time reading the whole passage carefully before they even know what they're being asked; we fix that habit early.
Writing: Task 1 and Task 2 get separate treatment. For Task 1, it's about describing data accurately and efficiently without over-explaining. For Task 2, we work on building an argument fast under time pressure, using a repeatable structure so you're not reinventing your approach every time and avoiding the vague, overly general sentences that cap your score even when your grammar is fine.
Speaking: mock interviews, recorded and reviewed, so you can actually hear where you hesitate, repeat yourself or default to simple vocabulary when a more precise word would score higher. We also work on extending answers naturally instead of trailing off after one sentence.
Throughout, I'll flag your specific patterns: the mistakes you make repeatedly, not just generic tips because that's usually what's actually capping your score.
🗣️ Oral Expression
This is less about grammar drills and more about getting you talking and then fixing things in real time. Depending on what you need it for, we might do free conversation on topics you'd actually encounter (work, travel, opinions on current events), structured practice for a specific situation (a job interview, a conference presentation, a client call) or pronunciation-focused work if certain sounds or stress patterns are tripping you up.
I correct as we go, but I don't interrupt every sentence; we'll find a rhythm where you get to actually finish your thought and then we go back and unpack what worked and what didn't. A lot of the focus is on things textbooks don't really teach: natural filler and hedging language, how to recover gracefully when you lose a word mid-sentence, how to sound confident even with a smaller vocabulary and how stress and intonation change meaning.
Text Commentary
This is closer to literary or rhetorical analysis than general reading comprehension. Given a passage: fiction, essay, speech, article, we work on identifying what it's actually doing: tone, argument, structure, word choice and how those elements work together to create an effect. Then we build that into a written commentary with a clear thesis of its own, evidence pulled directly from the text and analysis that goes beyond just describing what happens.
This is useful if you're preparing for an exam that includes commentary or explication de texte-style questions, doing coursework that requires close reading or just want to get better at reading critically rather than just reading for plot or information.
