• Parlez-vous couramment cette langue en raison de vos origines ou parce qu’un professeur vous a donné envie de l’apprendre ?

  I am a native English speaker. I grew up and lived in England for 20 years before moving to France in 2013. I also studied modern languages at the University of Exeter. Today I also speak fluent French, German and am learning Italian. My next goal is to master Spanish and Portuguese. I was recently naturalised as a French citizen so have both British and French nationality.

  Winston Churchill. He embodies strength, eloquence and leadership. He defended the universal dimension of English culture as a force for good, the voice of reason, democracy and liberty.

• Y-a-t-il, dans celle-ci, un mot, une expression, une tradition ou un comportement typique qui vous amuse particulièrement ?

  “Fancy a cuppa?” What amuses me most about British culture is that we respond to all problems with a cup of tea. Brexit, war, existential crisis? Let’s discuss it over tea.

  Career - You need to master English to secure the best job opportunities and to ensure an international career. English is the language of international business, diplomacy, and science.
  
  
  Culture - Speaking English allows access to culture, films, music, a vast range of knowledge, research material and literature that is often only available in English.
  
  
  On a personal level, learning a new language can boost self-confidence. It can also improve one’s social life as it enables meaningful communication with people from different cultures.

• Quelle est la difficulté principale de cette langue et ce qui peut favoriser son apprentissage ?

  'Bad English' is everywhere in our globalised society. One of the biggest challenges for learners of English as a foreign language is avoiding the mistakes made by other non-native speakers.
  
  
  Moreover, English has highly irregular spelling, pronunciation and idiomatic expressions, which can be very confusing for learners.
  
  
  The learning process is greatly facilitated by consistent practice, immersion in authentic contexts, and actively using the language through speaking and listening with a native speaker. The best approach is bespoke lessons with a native teacher who can offer personalised coaching and correct mistakes in real time.

• Une anecdote en rapport avec votre métier ou votre scolarité à nous raconter ?

  I particularly enjoyed lecturing at the Université de Strasbourg for the DUT Communications and IT programme. The students were highly motivated, which allowed me to stimulate very high-quality debates on current affairs and ethical topics. It was extremely rewarding to see students from disadvantaged backgrounds truly engage. That’s what I love most about language teaching: you empower people. Teaching someone a new language gives them a voice. It’s a way of promoting greater social justice.

• Aidez-nous à vous connaître un peu mieux en évoquant vos différents voyages.

  I have been fortunate to travel all over Europe. I am most interested in exploring different cultures, learning about history and art and mastering new languages. I have done a summer school in China, spent a few months in Italy, lived in France for 11 years and have also been to Mexico and the US. I have travelled extensively for both study and work. These experiences improve my teaching. I am able to share real-life examples, cultural references, and practical language tips that make learning more engaging and relevant.

• Qu’est-ce qui fait de vous un Superprof, en + de cette capacité à s’exprimer en plusieurs langues ?

  Triple expertise: 1) native English, 2) academic linguist and 3) business background in e-learning for foreign languages (former head of international sales).
  
  I am more than just a native English speaker; I have also studied languages at university and speak fluent French and German.
  
  
  
  My background in international sales and teaching experience make me well-suited to teach business English. Unlike most teachers who have only worked in education, I understand both business, language training and e-learning to offer a highly personalised and fun learning experience. I have worked in e-learning for foreign languages for about five years and so have expertise in this field.
  
  
  
  I am well-qualified: PhD in political philosophy, three master’s degrees, and a dual combined honours in languages, all from top universities: Sciences Po Strasbourg, the Sorbonne and the University of Exeter.
