In our lessons, we are going to discuss:
- previously read books&articles, watched movies&Ted Talks (for broader vocabulary)
- your experiences, hobbies, future plans (this helps a lot to get over the fear of speaking in English and understanding the grammar)
It's pretty simple: at the end of every lesson, we discuss what we'd like to focus on in the next lecture, prepare for that and then do it!
Ex.:
1) You want to discuss how to plan your trip to Amsterdam.
I get ready for that in terms of locations, you get ready for that in terms of vocabulary, and we talk about it on the next call.
2) I offer you to watch a TedTalk about Marina Abramovic. In the next lesson, we discuss our key insights from the TedTalk, I also make a list of phrases that will be useful in your vocabulary, and we try to use them in our conversation.
This way of learning worked for me when trying to memorize a new language as you are engaged in the conversations you like and also discover things you actually care about instead of having dry studies. I've been both studying and teaching in this way, therefore, I recommend giving it a try!
