This is a letter of recommendation for Mr. Ugo Tsimaratos, who was my tutor for approximately four semesters while I was a professor of Philosophy and Chair of the Dept. at Santa Barbara City College. RE: Recommendation Letter for Ugo Tsimaratos

Dear “Student who needs help with philosophy”,

I am writing to offer my highest support and recommendation of Ugo Tsimaratos to be your philosophy tutor. I have known Ugo for more than four years and in that time, I have been able to observe Ugo as my student, as a peer tutor for students taking my Introductory Astronomy lecture and lab as well as for other faculty’s Philosophy classes, and as an officer in the SBCC Astronomy Club. I have enjoyed learning from this intelligent and motivated young man as he shares his ideas in an enthusiastic but gentle manner. Some words that come to mind when I think about Ugo are: gregarious, intelligent, supportive, energetic, enthusiastic, motivated, compassionate, rational, and extremely optimistic.

I first met Ugo when he took the ERTH 102, Observational Astronomy Lab, during the summer session of 2015. Ugo was incredibly enthusiastic and very quickly learned to identify the stars in the sky and to operate the telescope proficiently. After learning the required stars and constellations I can remember him asking for more to learn, so we would pick stars amongst the constellations that we were learning and learn their names in as well. The enthusiasm that Ugo displayed inevitably spilled over to the other students in the class.

I was so impressed with Ugo’s performance in the lab that I invited him to become a peer tutor for the Astronomy lecture and lab. Ugo was one of our most successful peer tutors and the feedback from his students consistently told me how patient and thorough he is, and that he really cares about his students learning. Ugo will help you to understand the most difficult concepts in philosophy.

Ugo was an important part of the SBCC Astronomy Club as a club officer these last few years. Ugo seems to have boundless energy and is always interested in going on field trips, taking hikes with other clubs and having star parties. Last year Ugo was part of a team of Astronomy Club students that flew a weather balloon to the top of the stratosphere (30.5 km) to record the curvature of the Earth and blackness of the sky at that altitude.
