À propos de My-My Noémie

Languages have always played a central role in my life. I was born in the French-speaking part of Belgium, so French is my mother tongue. Since my mom didn’t speak it, I also grew up speaking Vietnamese at home — though only orally. The first foreign language I properly learned was English, like many others. My initial motivation? I wanted to be able to sing along to High School Musical songs! That early interest quickly turned into a passion, and I knew I wanted to work with languages in the future. So at school, I naturally gravitated towards language courses, picking up the basics of Dutch and Spanish during secondary school. Studying translation at university felt like an obvious next step. I chose English and Spanish — a useful combination that opens the door to a considerable part of the world. I already had a C1 level in English when I started, so I focused mostly on improving my Spanish. However, university didn’t turn out exactly as I expected; I often felt like I was studying politics more than language. It wasn’t until my third year, during my Erasmus exchange in Málaga, that I finally became fluent in Spanish. That same year, I also started learning German. My teacher was great, but I quickly realised that traditional classroom learning didn’t work for me. Still, I was too far along to change paths, so I stuck with it and finished my degree. In the final year of my Master’s, I interned at the Belgian embassy in London. To complete my credits, I also took one semester each of Dutch, Portuguese, and Mandarin. Of course, a single semester wasn't enough to become proficient in any of them. After graduation, I decided to take a different approach and moved to Germany to learn the language on my own. At first, it was tough — I relied a lot on online translators — but by the fourth month of my six-month stay, I was communicating entirely in German. I didn’t take any formal classes; I just practised every day with the people around me. A few years later, I used the same self-learning methods in the Netherlands and Portugal — this time in fast-track mode — to boost my Dutch and Portuguese. In between, I also spent nine months in Australia, where I was a private French tutor on the side, and backpacked around the world. As of 2025, I can communicate in seven languages — and now, I’d love to help you add a new one to your own skillset!

As you will notice from my language journey, traditional classroom methods just didn’t work for me. I only reached a natural, conversational level in any language once I immersed myself abroad. But I know that not everyone has the time or opportunity to do that — and that’s exactly where I come in. My method is simple: I want you to practise the language naturally with me, without involving heavy grammar lessons. After all, that’s how children learn — by speaking first. The idea is to build your confidence through conversation, and let the grammar come in gradually, when it becomes necessary. Of course, if you run into difficulties and need a bit of structure, I’ll be happy to explain the rules. But the main goal of these sessions is to give you the opportunity to practise with a fluent speaker.
